An Afternoon Full of Color: The Wall Paint Event at Konstanze Kuenheim ("der Berliner Malkasten")

Sometimes the most beautiful things are not found in a shop, but at an afternoon tea in the garden, surrounded by friends, color, and good ideas. The recent Wall Paint Event was just such an afternoon, an invitation to a small group to experience Annie Sloan Wall Paint in a completely different way: not on a wall, but in interaction with textiles, art, and craft.
Our host and collaborator was Konstanze Kuenheim, who opened her home for the afternoon. The afternoon tea took place in the garden, while in the living rooms and dining room, everything revolved around color, fabric, and craft. The wall paints were presented on frames. This allowed the effect of a color to be captured surprisingly well, without having to paint an entire wall. Ute Laackmann combined the colors with beautiful fabrics and showed how much depth is created when color and textile meet.
A special highlight was Judith Hingst, who spoke live about her work: She usually paints directly on walls, but for this afternoon, she transferred her pictures to wooden frames – a beautiful insight into a technique that is rarely experienced so closely.
Handcrafted details were also not forgotten: In addition to the textiles, handmade cords and trimmings from Herr Jende were displayed, who unfortunately could not be there himself. His works nevertheless spoke for themselves.
A separate chapter of the day belonged to the little kitchen shop, which provided beautiful accents in the rooms with cushions and beautiful home textiles. The shop can be found at Mexikoplatz in Zehlendorf, and there's another reason to visit: On September 11, a second shop will open there, directly opposite the first.
It was an afternoon that showed how much more there is to wall paint than just the color itself: It is a starting point for moods, for combinations with fabric and material, for craft and art.
